Live country music venues are where it’s at when it comes to having a good ol’ time and taking in some good tunes. If you happen to be attending your first country music show, you’ll want to keep the following things in mind if you want to be one of the cool kids:

Cowboy Hats and Boots – It may seem a little too on the nose, but the fact remains that a cowboy hat & boots are part of the uniform for the country music fan. Even with the more laid-back, fraternity brother type style, the blue jean/tennis shoe/trucker hat has become rather en vogue. Nonetheless, a hat and boots is still ‘go-to’ attire for the country faithful. Your boots may be a nice & shiny, or they may have the scuffs of someone who’s been working all day.

Domestic Beer and Water? When it comes to country music and alcohol, there is a long history of the two going hand in hand. In the last few years, more scrutiny has fallen on this connection as a series of incidents have marred festivities all over the country. Still, when it comes to acceptable sudsy, adult beverages, domestic beer is the accepted choice. After all, country music is roots music, and these roots pertain to the U.S of A. Be sure, though, to keep yourself hydrated and drink water. There’s no point in taking in your first country music show if you’re just going to pass out from dehydration.

Two Steps Down the Line – The two-step is THE dance most associated with country music. It’s the perfect combination of basic patterns that can be enhanced with a few turns and just looks cool. Don’t forget, though, that line dances are still big in some parts. There are an unending variety of line dances (some based on specific songs), and nothing speaks to country music camaraderie like bootin’ and scootin’ with a whole mess of people.

Make your first country music concert one to remember. With the right gear, a cold one in hand, and a little shimmy in your step, you are sure to have a great time.
